Ap Chau

Hidden Paradise (One-day course)

Ap Chau is the smallest inhabited island in Hong Kong. More than 1,000 people lived there in the 1950s, but many residents later emigrated or moved to the urban area. The fishing village was built about 70 years ago. This relatively short history has produced many interesting cultural and heritage stories. Unlike other fishing villages, where Tin Hau and Hung Shing are worshipped, Ap Chau is an all-Christian community.
The Ap Chau Story Room, converted from the old Ap Chau Fishermen's Children Primary School, presents the island’s settlement history and the islanders’ overseas migration. There are also displays of traditional domestic utensils and fishing tools, as well as rock samples and fossil models.
