Getting to Know Hong Kong Geopark

Located in the eastern part of Hong Kong, Hong Kong UNESCO Global Geopark showcases world-class geoheriatge, diverse ecological and cultural landscapes. Conservation of natural and cultural heritage, popularisation of earth science and promotion of local sustainable development are the 3 main goals of Hong Kong Geopark.

What are UNESCO Global Geoparks?

UNESCO Global Geoparks are single, unified geographical areas where sites and landscapes of international geological significance are managed with a holistic concept of protection, education and sustainable development. Their bottom-up approach of combining conservation with sustainable development while involving local communities is becoming increasingly popular.

High Island

Offers splendid scenery and is the most convenient site to appreciate the hexagonal rock columns up-close.

Kat O

Kat O is a traditional fishing village with a rich culture and history. Its Chinese name means "lucky harbour".

Lai Chi Wo

Lai Chi Wo is one of the oldest, biggest and best-preserved rural settlements in the northeast New Territories of Hong Kong.

Sharp Island

Sharp Island is where you can enjoy a walk on a tombolo and trace the remnants of the edge of an ancient volcano.

Ap Chau

Resembles a duck lying on the sea, it has a sea arch that visitors can get near to observe and touch.

Tung Ping Chau

Tung Ping Chau sometimes being called the "thousand layers cake" island, showcases a range of colourful sedimentary rock strata.
